Are there beginner classes for all ages?
The Academy offers beginner classes from ages 3 to teen.
Does the Academy offer workshops for outside students?
Yes, the Academy's summer programs are open to the community. MJPAA also hosts the Florida Dance Jam workshop. This workshop is a vehicle for students to learn from some of the leading faculty in the dance world.
Do you have any performance/competition teams?
Yes, the Academy houses three performing arts companies - Dance Encore competitive dance team, Showtime performance dance team and Showstoppers song and dance troupe. Auditions are held annually each June.
Is your facility available for private functions?
Yes, please contact the Academy to discuss specific rental rates and policies.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, private lessons are available in all disciplines instructed at the Academy.
Do you offer trial classes?
Yes, trial classes are available in all subjects. For a reasonable fee, students may try a class prior to registering.
Can parents view classes?
The Academy offers class observation the first week of each month (see our events page for specific dates). Video Monitors are provided in the waiting area for parents to observe their child without distracting them during class.
Do you have recitals/concerts?
Yes, the dance department's annual concert is held each June at the University of South Florida.
The music department will hold an annual recital each May at the Academy black box theatre. This recital includes voice, instrument and theatre dance students.
The acting department will perform presentations at the end of each acting session as per instructor.
When is tuition due and how can I make a payment?
Tuition is due on the 1st of each month. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa, MC, Amex, Discover). The Academy also offers automatic monthly credit card withdrawal.
How much are classes?
Tuition varies according to how many hours a student takes per week. Classes in the dance and voice department start as low as $52.50 per month. Please contact the Academy for current tuition rates.
Where can I purchase uniform clothing and shoes?
The Academy houses the Dancer's Closet boutique. Dancer's Closet is fully stocked with all of your dance supply needs. New inventory is added weekly. Registered students receive a 10% discount.
Is there an Academy uniform?
Yes, the Academy base uniform is a burgundy leotard and pink tights. Each dance class has specific uniform and shoe requirements. Please contact the Academy for detailed class uniforms. There in no uniform requirement for acting and music classes.
Is there a registration fee?
Yes, there is an annual registration fee per family.
How long are classes?
Class length can range from 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours depending on subject and level.
How many students are in each class?
Class size is based on the type of class, student age and studio size.
When do classes begin and end?
The Fall class session begins in August and ends in June. The Summer session runs from June to August. Acting program sessions run in 6 to 8 week increments. Please contact the Academy for more specific information.
How old do children need to be to start classes?
The Academy classes start with Movin and Groovin at age 2 and continue to the professional level.
